Vacancy: Project Coordinator Fundraising/Media

Photo: and the Photography Education Trust are seeking a Project Coordinator with Fundraising and/or Media experience.
The Project Coordinator will join our small dedicated team in Johannesburg on a short-term contract (9 months, with the possibility to extend).

Key Job Responsibilities:
With the team; plan, implement, coordinate and conceptualize all projects of Photo: and the Photography Education Trust

Specific Skills - Fundraising
·       Research, identify and contact prospective funders and donors
·       Develop and maintain a fundraising strategy and programme, including proposals and reports


Specific Skills - Media
·       Develop and maintain a media and publicity strategy and programme, including websites, social media and project specific media

The chosen candidate should ideally have qualifications and/or experience in visual arts, or a similar humanities field. The ideal candidate should be organized, detail-oriented, self-starter that has the ability to manage time across multiple projects. Proficient in requisite software and good writing skills.

The contract, including hours and salary, will depend on experience, skill set and availability.

Photo: is a photography platform that develops and promotes socially relevant photography projects/work and photographers. Through curatorial and educational projects throughout the African continent and beyond, Photo: promotes emerging and practicing photographers and photography with the aim to encourage critical and experimental approaches/responses, that challenge and stimulate how we think about photography and our world.

Further, through commissioning, producing and connecting photography projects and practioners, Photo: wants to encourage dialogue, exchange, engagement and participation. Central to its vision, is the idea that photography can be a delicate tool for social change.

About the Photography Education Trust
The Photography Education Trust is a registered public benefit trust to encourage and nurture photography as a response to South Africa’s vibrant, conflicted and constantly changing society, as a means of creating mutual understanding; thereby assisting in the evolution of a better society for all.

It aims to provide training to aspirant photographers, including aspirant photographers from disadvantaged backgrounds, to equip them with the attitudes, experience, values and technical skills necessary to enable them to find employment or create self-employment while pursuing the ethos described above.

The Photography Education Trust was established by David Goldblatt, Mfundi Vundla and John Fleetwood.
