Professional Photography Networking Project

Ethiopian photographer, Maheder Haileselassie, completed a 10-day professional networking programme and mentorship in Johannesburg with Photo: to develop ideas for her forthcoming photography platform to assist and develop emerging photographers in Addis Ababa. 

John Fleetwood mentors and works with Maheder in the International Professional Networking Programme which is part of “Creative Futures”, a two year programme to support the creative industries in Ethiopia, jointly organized by British Council, Goethe-Institut and iceaddis, funded by the European Commission, aimed to support the creative industries in Ethiopia.

From the 23 January to the 2 February 2017, Maheder joined Photo: in Johannesburg to meet several photography institutions ranging from production and training to galleries including Lightfarm Studios, Fourthwall Books, Soho Display, Bag Factory, Room Gallery, Market Photo Workshop, Of Soul and Joy project, Goethe-Institute Johannesburg, Assemblage, VANSA, Bailey’s African History Archive (Drum), Wits Arts Museum, Wits School of Arts and GALA. 

In the next 18 months Maheder will develop a series of projects/workshops to develop critical engagement with and amongst Ethiopian photographers.
