Watch: Work from 2021 democraSEE Dar es Salaam

The democraSEE Dar es Salaam photography workshop was held from 30 Aug – 11 Sep 2021 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Presented by the Goethe-Institut Tanzania, Goethe-Institut Johannesburg, Photo:, with facilitators John Fleetwood, Nicholas Calvin, this workshop brought together 10 photographers from Tanzania who, through photography, seek to explore issues impacting on in/visibilities and positionality towards open societies.

The sessions were held at Nafasi Art Space in Dar es Salaam. The encounter culminated in a public event held on the 11 Sep 2021 at Nafasi Art Space. One of the central concerns of the workshop was how photography can engage with the public. Photographers were given the opportunity to start and refine a body of work over the workshop, and through this event, share it with the people of Dar es Salaam.
