Photo: is a multi-operation platform for the development and promotion of socially engaged photography practices, photographers and critical visual culture.

Through curatorial and educational projects throughout the African continent and beyond, Photo: promotes emerging and practicing photographers and photography with the aim to encourage critical and experimental approaches/responses, that challenge and stimulate how we think about photography and our world.

Further, through commissioning, producing and connecting photography projects and practitioners, Photo: wants to encourage dialogue, exchange, engagement and participation.

Central to its vision, is the idea that photography can be a delicate tool for social change.

 

Main Purpose of Job

To plan, implement and coordinate assigned projects of Photo: and the Photography Education Trust. Manage efficient workflow, media and communication.

To plan, organize and manage the integrated administrative and accounting activities of Photo:.

 

Job Description and responsibilities

·      Together with the Director of Photo:, plan, implement and coordinate all projects of Photo: and PET including administrative, operational, financial, educational, curatorial, research and project activities.

·       Coordinate and implement a communication, marketing and media plan for Photo: and its projects including regular social media and website postings, media releases.

·       Archiving all project materials including photographs, texts, media, work and contracts.

·       Coordinate logistics of all projects per project plan including recruitment, transport, storage and insurance of artworks etc. on a project-specific basis.

·       Coordinate the banking and accounting activities of Photo:.

·       Manage operational and project budgets assigned and track expenditure and reporting.

·       To support all fundraising and donor activities and relationships in conjunction with the Director.

 ·      Assist the Director as requested in general work.

 

Experience and Qualifications

The chosen candidate should ideally have qualifications and/or experience in the visual arts or humanities field. The ideal candidate should be organized, detail-oriented, self-starter who has the ability to manage time across multiple projects. Proficient in requisite software and good writing skills.

 

Reporting structure, Operational Outline

The Project Coordinator reports directly to the Director. Photo:’s operations will operate mostly through online communication will be the main form of interaction.

 

Contractual Commitment

The position is a 2-day a week commitment, and from time to time, additional days can be negotiated.  Even though it will be managed by flexi-time arrangement, it is expected that the candidate will at be available weekly. It is a 2-year commitment, that can be extended.

 

Salary

Salary will be based on the skills and experience of the successful candidate, as well as allowances for operation.

 

Office and Resources

Coordinator will operate from their own space/office. From time to time, you might be required to meet at hot desk facilities. Photo: is Johannesburg-based.

Photo: will negotiate with the candidate regarding resources like laptops, communication allowances. The candidate must make sure that there is proper internet connection to allow for good quality online communication.

Photo: will through its service providers provide Microsoft Office Software, an online shared folders system (like Dropbox), and where necessary other software programmes.
