Congratulations to Sabelo Mlangeni, laureate of the third edition of the James Barnor Prize, announced on 8 July 2026 at Rencontres d'Arles with support from Sézane.
Working largely in black and white, Mlangeni has built his practice around intimate photographs of communities he feels connected to. His practice is built on intimacy, accountability, care and repair. His work surveys challenging and confounding aspects of experiences, anchored in South African and regional contexts.

We are interested in work that asks how archives can inspire new image-making, how photographers navigate and pay tribute to their sources, and how archival material shifts in meaning across different historical moments and contexts. We also welcome emerging photographers who are working with or through archives as part of developing their own practice.

Sophie Ristelhueber is the 2025 Hasselblad Award laureate. The ceremony was held on 10 October 2025 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Ristelhueber’s four-decade exploration of landscape, territory, and the traces of human conflict is on exhibit at the Hasselblad Center in Gothenburg from 11 October 2025 to 18 January 2026.
